Jordan Peele and Universal have come together to release the new trailer for Dev Patel’s directorial debut, Monkey Man.
Previously set up with Netflix, this action-packed thriller is set for release in cinema on April 4th. Peele was given early access to the movie but was so taken aback by Patel’s vision; he declined the early viewing to experience it in a cinema. Universal will market and distribute Monkey Man through their film deal with Jordan Peele under Monkeypaw.
Patel will be starring in the film as well as directing the motion picture. The movie is inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon that embodies strength and courage. Patel’s character, Kid, works as a fighter in an underground fight club.
The film’s name is derived from Patel’s character, who wears a monkey mask before getting beaten up for money for his job.
Monkey Man follows Kid sets out on a quest for revenge against the people who are responsible for murdering his mother. While telling the tale of revenge, the setting of the movie will also highlight class struggles, as the people Kid is seeking retribution against also take advantage of the powerless.
Shot in Mumbai, this new blockbuster also feature Sikander Kher, Sharlto Copley, Sobhita Dhulipala, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Makarand Deshpande and Ashwini Laksekar.
