Watch Shania Twain “relive some of my youth” at tiny London show
Shania Twain will soon be singing for 90,000 fans a night on Harry Styles’ Together Together tour, but on Saturday night, she played a tiny London gig at the Shacklewell Arms for a room of 200.
In a bid to warm up for Styles’ record-breaking 12-night run at Wembley Stadium, beginning on June 12th and concluding on July 4th, the Grammy winner appeared at the Dalston venue on June 6th.
With an air of nostalgia, the hitmaker took the audience with her on a trip down memory lane, recalling, “They would say, ‘Welcome to the stage, little miss Twain’, and that was me! And I would sing my little country songs, and little did I know I would be all the way over here.”
She added wistfully, “I’m so happy to be here and be reliving some of my youth.”
The star opened with new single ‘Dirty Rosie’ from the upcoming seventh studio album, Little Miss Twain, on July 24th via Republic. Her previous release came in 2023 and was titled Queen of Me.
Recalling her start in the industry, Twain shared, “And I only got signed in Nashville, Tennessee, when I was in my late twenties, so this was a long buildup. I promise you, I was playing these very same kind of bars all those years from the age of eight years old to my late twenties, and little Miss Twain was trying to become a recording artist. The rest of the story is on the album; you’ll have to listen to the album.”
Following this, she ran through ‘Any Man of Mine’, ‘Come on Over’, and ‘NO one Needs to Know’ before a handful of covers, including Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Please Mr Please’, and Don Schlitz’s ‘The Gambler’.
At one point, the country icon addressed the crowd gratefully, sharing, “I appreciate so much you joining me in this environment that I haven’t experienced since I was a kid, and it makes me feel very complete.”
Twain finished with a cover of The Traditional Fools’ ‘Cotton-Eyed Joe’, which the audience gleefully participated in.
Elsewhere, Twain is officially getting the biopic treatment, after it was recently announced that Sony Pictures reached an agreement with director and writer Leah McKendrick. Twain appears to be in full support of the endeavour.
