Watch MJ Lenderman and The Wind perform ‘Wristwatch’ at Green Man festival
Indie-rock titan MJ Lenderman and his band, The Wind, took to the Mountain Stage at Green Man festival for a swaggering 90-minute set that included the massive tune ‘Wristwatch’.
The musician, hailing from North Carolina, bagged himself one of the best spots of the day, and played for a full 90 minutes – longer than rising country-pop star CMAT, who would take the stage after him.
Lenderman strutted through a host of old songs before diving into singles from his latest solo album, 2024’s Manning Fireworks. Later, he also covered This is Lorelei’s tune ‘Dancing in the Club’, before launching into the set standout, ‘She’s Leaving You’.
‘Wristwatch’, his most well-known song hailing from Manning Fireworks, came around halfway into the set. The crowd, filled with avid fans and families lounging on the hill at the back, all appeared to know the words, “I got a houseboat docked at the Himbo Dome / And a wristwatch that’s a pocket knife and a megaphone.”
MJ and band have a busy few weeks ahead. They will go on to play Noorderzon Festival in Groningen on August 19th, after which they will touch down for two nights at Paradiso Noord in Amsterdam on August 20th and 21st. Finally, they will also play at Canela Party Festival in Torremolinos on August 23rd.
MJ Lenderman and the Wind performed in the wake of an eclectic array of acts like Allegra Krieger and RIP Magic. On Friday, acts like Panda Bear, Sex Week and John Grant stole the show, while Wunderhorse supported on the Mountain Stage, warmed up the large crowd for an impressive, triumphant set from Wet Leg.
Throughout the rest of the weekend, the Brecon Beacons will welcome Beth Gibbons, Big Special, Folk Bitch Trio, and TV on the Radio. Green Man is Wales’ biggest independent music festival. Over 25,000 attendees sold the festival out in under an hour this year, despite no line-up having been released.
