Unless you’ve been living under a rock then Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s anthemic ode to female sexual liberation ‘WAP’ will have been rolling around your head.
It’s thumping bass and unstoppable catchy refrain has seen it draw criticism and become an earworm all at the same time—but Margo price, who has just covered the song acoustically, has given it a brand new spin.
On The Daily Show, late-night host Trevor Noah and Dulce Sloan were discussing some of the wide and varied reactions to the song’s salacious lyrics and how it has been received since its release last week.
“I bet if it was a country music star that sang the same lyrics, all these men would still be upset,” Sloan told the show. Up steps Margo Price with a countrified version of the song which has taken the world by storm.
“I knew it was gonna have a big impact, I guess, because of me and Megan. But I didn’t know it was going to be so controversial,” Cardi B said in an interview i-D, speaking about the reaction she has received. “I never expected that, you know, conservatives and Republicans were going to be talking about the song.
“I didn’t think the song was as vulgar as they said it was, you know? Like, I’m so used to it. I’m such a freak that I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I didn’t think people would think it was so out of this world…”
