Watch Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson in new ‘The Naked Gun’ trailer
The trailer for the latest film instalment in The Naked Gun franchise has been released, starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson in the lead roles.
Following on from the much-acclaimed Police Squad! TV series from the early 1980s, Neeson stars as the character of Frank Drebin Jr, son of the original cop Frank Drebin, played by Leslie Nielson in its first iteration some four decades ago now.
In the trailer, Neeson and Anderson are seen as the classic police and femme fatale duo, with threats under Drebin to save his Police Squad if he does not act to solve a significant crime. Naturally, comedy ensues with all the classic spoof material of the previous instalments of The Naked Gun.
The wider ensemble cast for The Naked Gun is filled out by Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, Liza Koshy, and Busta Rhymes, among others.
The current film has been some time in the pipeline after it was first greenlit three years ago, in 2022. Despite this, however, it had been in the works as far back as 2013, as a legacy sequel to the previous film instalment, Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, which was released in 1994.
The creative reigns of the franchise have now been passed from original writers Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker to Akiva Schaffer, who directs the film also co-wrote the script alongside Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
Additionally, after being brought on board in 2021 as an extra creative mind to the project, actor and comedian Seth MacFarlane is serving as producer, who secured Neeson for the lead role in the film.
The Naked Gun will be released in cinemas in the US via Paramount Pictures on August 1st, 2025.
