Watch Leonardo DiCaprio in new ‘One Battle After Another’ trailer

Director Paul Thomas Anderson is back with the latest trailer for his upcoming action thriller One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti.

The Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning filmmaker Anderson directs the new movie from his own screenplay. He has teamed up with Oscar and BAFTA-winning Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim.

Though no official synopsis has been given, a plot emerges from the two available trailers. A father is attempting to locate his daughter, who has been arrested. Warner Bros has provided a one-liner: “When their evil nemesis resurfaces after 16 years, a band of ex-revolutionaries reunite again to rescue the daughter of one of their own.”

The plot was inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s postmodern 1990 novel Vineland. However, it is set in the present day, rather than the 1980s, as Pynchon opted for.

DiCaprio’s character appears to be that of a worried father living in the past. When his daughter visits, he becomes confused over pronouns and demands that she call out “I love you!” before she leaves.

Alana Haim stars after a busy summer with her sisters, with whom she is in the band Haim. They released their first album in five years this summer, and put on a fierce display for a large crowd at Glastonbury who gathered for their secret set.

Alana also starred in Anderson’s most recent movie, Licorice Pizza, in 2021. In a glowing four-and-a-half star review of the film, Far Out wrote, “Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest feature-length movie, Licorice Pizza, falls nothing short of a masterpiece label. Licorice Pizza is a culmination of everything that came before it in Anderson’s filmography, and in terms of aesthetic and spirit, the nods to Fast Times at Ridgemont High and American Graffiti are clear.”

One Battle After Another is in cinemas from September 26th.
