Watch Hugh Jackman star in trailer for ‘The Sheep Detectives’
Hugh Jackman has swapped the dancing shoes for a shovel and a caravan as he becomes the custodian of a flock of sheep in The Sheep Detectives.
The upcoming film is deemed a “witty, new breed of mystery,” which sees the happy farmlife disrupted for the flock after a shocking incident.
“If there’s one secret to happiness in my life, it’s taking care of the kindest creatures on Earth… Sheep! I want you to meet my flock,” Jackman’s character explains at the opening of the newly released trailer.
He feeds them, grooms them, and reads detective novels to them every day. Little does he know, the sheep talk amongst each other, and understand every word he says.
Things take a gruesome turn for the worse after Jackman’s character is found murdered on the farm. “It’s a herder mystery, and everyone is a suspect,” the tagline reads.
Knowing that they have the most intel about the murder, and in reaction to the useless police officer assigned to the case, the flock of sheep helps get to the bottom of the matter, cracking jokes along the way.
Jackman is supported by a star-studded cast; Succession‘s Nicholas Braun joins alongside Emma Thompson, who plays Jackman’s savvy lawyer. Additionally, The Idea of You star Nicholas Galitzine gets hands-on in the murder-mystery.
There are plenty of voice actors involved, too. Bringing the sheep to life, the film includes Bryan Cranston, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall and Patrick Stewart.
Adapted from Leonie Swann’s 2005 novel Three Bags Full by Craig Mazi, the picture will be directed by Minions mastermind Kyle Balda.
Jackman fans don’t have to wait until May 2026 to see him appear on the big screen; his next project, Song Sung Blue, will appear in cinemas on New Year’s Day. It sees him take on the likeness of a real Neil Diamond tribute act. Kate Hudson also stars in the Craig Brewer-directed film.
The Sheep Detectives arrives in theaters in May 2026. Watch the official trailer below.
