Watch Harry Styles cover ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’ by Tears for Fears
Harry Styles has been back in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. This time, he has covered a 1980s classic, singing a faithful rendition of the Tears for Fears hit, ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’.
In support of his latest album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, Styles took to the live lounge to perform three new tracks, namely ‘Aperture’, ‘Dance No More’, and ‘American Girls’.
As is tradition in the BBC studio, Styles also served up a cover, opting for the familiar mega-hit.
The Tears for Fears song was released in 1985 and immediately became a huge synth-pop hit. Hailing from the album Songs from the Big Chair, the anthemic, atmospheric feel of the track meant it peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100.
Notably, the track regained popularity when it was used as the closing track in the A24 box office hit, Marty Supreme, led by Timothée Chalamet and directed by Josh Safdie.
The British icon is no stranger to the Live Lounge; previously, he has covered ‘The Chain’ by Fleetwood Mac, ‘Juice’ by Lizzo, and ‘Wet Dream’ by indie group Wet Leg.
When discussing his latest release with Zane Lowe, Styles didn’t mention Tears for Fears, but he did reveal a whole host of other important influences on the project, including Four Tet, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, and Simon and Garfunkel.
Styles will continue his marketing for the new release this weekend, when he is set to host and feature as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
Additionally, the star recently performed for one night only at Manchester’s Co-Op Arena, a show he turned into a Netflix special. Styles’ ‘One Night Only’ show saw the star singing all 12 tracks from the album from start to finish.
