Watch Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones star in first trailer for ‘Twisters’

The first trailer for Twisters, starring Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, has been unveiled during the Super Bowl.

The upcoming movie, which is a stand-alone sequel to the 1996 original, sees Academy Award-nominated Minari director Lee Isaac Chung make his blockbuster debut, while the ensemble cast boasts an eclectic array of talented performers.

Powell and Edgar-Jones are joined by Anthony Ramos, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane Kiernan Shipka, Daryl McCormack and David Corenswet.

While the first trailer is light on plot, the story revolves around a group of storm chasers faced with the most inclement weather imaginable.

Jan de Bont’s original earned almost $500million at the box office. Therefore, the pressure is on Twisters to replicate its financial success.

The project was initially announced as a remake and Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski was lined up to take the reins. However, it was later confirmed to be a stand alone sequel when Chung was named as the person occupying the director’s chair.

McCormick previously told The Hollywood Reporter of the film while it was in production: “When I heard that they were doing a remake, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, that’s a lot of pressure on this because the first one did so well.’ But I think Lee Isaac Chung is such an interesting choice because he’s a really sensitive director. I don’t see how he can make a film like this and not make it feel intimate, so that’s what I’m excited about.”

None of the cast members from the first movie will be reprising their roles unless Twisters. The movie is set to arrive in cinemas on July 19th.
