Arctic Monkeys delivered an astonishing performance during their first and only UK festival appearance live from Glasgow’s TRNSMT Festival.
Monkeys, closing the first weekend of the event on Glasgow Green, rolled through their now expansive back catalogue of material with a combination of fan favourites and new numbers from their most recent album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.
On top of that, Turner brought out his Last Shadow Puppets bandmate Miles Kane for a stirring rendition of ‘505’.
They didn’t want to do too many shows this summer so they’ve been picking and choosing… it’s a great honour,” said the festival’s director Geoff Ellis.
“Nothing’s easy in terms of booking bands… but I think they’ve always wanted to do it. They’ve always had a good relationship with Scotland and Scottish audiences,” he says.
“We didn’t have to twist their arms to do it but you go through the general negotiations to a get headliner as you would do anyway.”
The set took a similar route to what Arctic Monkeys’ current tour offering, kicking off with ‘Four Out of Five’ before rolling straight into ‘Brianstorm’. The band did, however, pull out ‘Teddy Picker’ from 2007 album Favourite Worst Nightmare for the first time in recent years.
