Today’s Track of the Day is a fierce and expansive piece of rock ‘n’ roll that comes from the finest new band to have been snapped up by Ty Segall’s label, In The Red Records.
Wand are fellow Californians who who use a transfixing combination of powerful guitars and wistful synth to take the listener on a rollercoaster of the otherworldly.
Those who are in to the likes of Tame Impala and Thee Oh Sees will no doubt be instantly hooked upon hearing the enthralling riff of ‘Flying Golem’ kick in, harking back to the sounds of the former’s debut EP, which saw Kevin Parker monopolise every instrument.
But Wand are much more of a unit, with a balance of power that leaves every section hitting you with equal velocity. They’ve yet to reach UK shores but are currently supporting Segall in the US, opening up the mouth-watering prospect of the same bill arriving in November as part of his Manipulator European tour.
For now though, celebrate the weekend with ‘Flying Golem’ and make it your duty to get your hands on their debut LP Ganglion Reef.
