Walton Goggins praises ‘Saturday Night Live’ parody of ‘The White Lotus’ despite Aimee Lou Wood’s “mean and unfunny” complaints
Walton Goggins has praised Saturday Night Live on their parody of The White Lotus, despite co-star Aimee Lou Wood complaining about the sketch.
Controversy was sparked last weekend when the American comedy show aired a skit called ‘The White Potus’, making fun of US President Donald Trump’s current trade tariffs but also in turn mocking Wood’s appearance, which she hit out at as being “mean and unfunny.”
The actor, who plays Chelsea in the hit series, subsequently confirmed that she had received a rare apology from SNL in light of the backlash from the incident.
However, Goggins, who stars as Chelsea’s boyfriend Rick on the show, has praised the skit. He first posted a now-deleted comment on SNL’s Instagram that read: “Hahahahahhahaha Amazzzingggg,” before sharing the video to his Instagram story with the caption “Smashing,” and lauding Jon Hamm’s parody performance as Rick by saying: “Jon … I knew I was miscast.”
It comes as rumours of a feud between Goggins and Wood have been ignited after the pair appeared to unfollow each other on social media, and have since avoided tagging each other’s accounts when posting photos of their characters online as promotion for the show.
It is also not the only drama to have seemingly plagued this most recent series of The White Lotus, with actor Jason Isaacs hinting towards unspecified tensions between the cast.
Furthermore, composer Cristóbal Tapia De Veer explosively quit the series after claiming its creator Mike White “was just saying ‘no’ to anything,” to which the showrunner responded: “I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show,” adding that De Veer’s decision to leave days before the finale was a “bitch move”.
