The hardest working man in rock and roll, Ty Segall, has released yet another EP amid the ongoing social distancing that we’re all experiencing.
Seagall has been known to provide a rollicking cover or two in his time, lest we forget his T-Rex covers record, Ty Rex. But even by his standards, this is something truly special.
Usually, if Segall isn’t on stage he is in the recording studio, such is his proficiency at churning out mind-bending records. But his latest effort is a little different as he takes on six covers of the legendary Harry Nilsson.
Segall has chosen the six tracks straight from Nilsson’s album Nilsson Schmilsson, and sees the mercurial guitarist and a swirling psyche sound to Nilsson’s pop joy. It includes a cover of the song made famous by Netflix’s Russian Doll, the brilliant ‘Got To Get Up’.
“I wanted to cover Nilsson Schmilsson for years, so I used the opportunity of being at home to cover my favourite cuts from the record,” Segall said in a statement.
The EP Segall Smeagol is available as a free download on Bandcamp. You can listen to it below:
