Having recently released one of the best albums of the year so far Chicago band Twin Peaks’ leading track from the album Wild Onion is the perfect example of why this band are slowly becoming the best band in the US. Forget The Orwells, forget Parquet Courts, Twin Peaks are the real deal, mixing punk with laconic tones and pop sensibilities ‘I Found a New Way’ is our Track of the Day.
Twin Peaks manage to add a little bit of The Clash a little bit of The Velvet Underground to an already bubbling crucible of sound. They slip effortlessly between 70’s rock and modern indie making a whole sonic experience that is increasingly enjoyable with every listen.
The vocals from Clay Frankel really set this track apart from other chugging riffs and pop drum pieces, he possesses a scathing and retching sound which rises from deep ad soulful to a higher echelon of agony and is as impassioned as an early Iggy Pop and you feel with the same credentials Twin Peaks will motor on.
‘I Found a New Way’ is the perfect introduction to the band’s LP Wild Onion, it’s powerful yet pop-filled, it has the same hooks as Thin Lizzy but with so much added extra effervescence. Twin Peaks are truly marked out against a backdrop of 90’s grunge and ugly Britpop regurgitations, they stand head and shoulders above the rest with this authentic and organic melting of all things great and good from the rock world, formed and solidified in this track. Sit back, light a cig and enjoy every last second of it.
