The TV show Nicole Kidman is desperate to star in: “I would do anything”
Nicole Kidman quickly ascended the ranks of the film industry when she swapped out Australian productions for Hollywood ones, finding herself at the heart of a big-budget movie when she took on a role in the 1990 film Days of Thunder alongside Tom Cruise.
Yet, the actor has always had a penchant for independent and offbeat filmmaking, and after several years of navigating a new cinematic landscape, she proved her potential as a leading icon in the Gus Van Sant indie film To Die For.
Playing Suzanne Stone Maretto, a weather girl who soon conspires with some impressionable high-schoolers to have her husband killed, the film highlighted Kidman’s ability to effortlessly bring humour to a performance, seemingly at home with darkly comic material. From that moment, Kidman truly had the industry at her fingertips, and it wasn’t long before she was collaborating with figures like Stanley Kubrick – appearing with Cruise once again for Eyes Wide Shut – and Lars von Trier.
Over the years, Kidman has graced our screens with a wide array of titles, and she seems to be one of the most prolific actors of her generation. She doesn’t seem to slow down, with projects for the silver screen and the small screen starring Kidman emerging each year, most of which find sufficient acclaim.
In fact, recent years have seen the actor take on more television projects than ever before, and with her turn in Big Little Lies for HBO, she delivered one of the most memorable performances of her career. Her character, Celeste, suffers domestic abuse at the hands of a man who otherwise tries to present himself as an ideal father and family man. She earned several accolades for the role, including a Golden Globe, marking a new era in Kidman’s career as an acclaimed television star.
Since then, she has appeared in other successful series like Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake: China Girl, Nine Perfect Strangers, and The Perfect Couple, but there’s one show that she’s dying to be a part of. Rather unsurprisingly, Kidman is one of many actors who would do anything to appear in The White Lotus, one of HBO’s most popular shows of recent years.
Created and directed by Mike White, Kidman is actually no stranger to the showrunner, who co-starred with her in The Stepford Wives back in 2004. Despite the fact they’ve met before, Kidman told IndieWire, “I don’t think I’ve ever been asked” to appear on the show. “I’m a massive fan of Mike White, so I would do anything he writes, because I just think he’s phenomenal. I love The White Lotus.”
Since The White Lotus first aired in 2021, it has become hugely successful, winning a string of Emmys and a dedicated fanbase. The show has seen a revolving door of actors appear, from Jennifer Coolidge to Walton Goggins, Sydney Sweeney, F Murray Abraham, and Jason Isaacs, and it’s certainly the kind of ensemble cast that you can imagine Kidman being a part of. Perhaps we’ll see the actor starring in the upcoming fourth season, which is set to premiere next year.
