The one TV show Emma Stone has always wanted to be in: “That’s my dream”

When Emma Stone started acting, she didn’t exactly pick the kinds of roles you can imagine getting Oscar-nominated. From Superbad and The House Bunny to Zombieland and Easy A, she established herself as a great comedic actor, albeit one more likely to win Teen Choice Awards than Academy Awards. Yet, with over a decade passing by, Stone’s cinematic choices have become more boundary-pushing and impressive, resulting in five Oscar nominations and two wins.

Stone was fascinated with the idea of becoming a Hollywood star from an early age, like many children. Yet, she had this steadfast determination within herself that compelled her to do all she could to make this dream a reality. Thus, she made a PowerPoint presentation for her parents in an attempt to convince them that her true calling was being a world-famous actor, and somehow, it worked.

She moved to Hollywood and started her career as an actor, booking her first role in the 2004 show The New Partridge Family. After a few more television appearances, she landed a supporting role in Superbad, which became an incredibly popular comedy. It helped to establish her among a crop of young American comedic actors, and she predominantly picked lighthearted and romantic movies for the next few years.

Yet, with roles in movies like Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), La La Land, The Favourite, and Poor Things, Stone has become one of the most impressive actors of her generation, unafraid to take on bold and complex roles. She has even become known as one of Yorgos Lanthimos’ most frequent collaborators – the Greek director known for his bizarre and experimental approaches to cinema.

Despite all of this success, there is something that Stone desperately wants to be a part of, which she has routinely been rejected from. You’d think that someone like Stone could get any opportunity she tried her hand at, but that’s not been the case. All Stone really wants in life is to appear on her all-time favourite television show: Jeopardy

Appearing on Variety’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Stone revealed, “That’s my favorite show,” sharing, “That’s my dream, I apply every June.” Unfortunately for the actor, these applications have never been successful. “I don’t want to go on Celebrity Jeopardy! I really want to earn my stripes. I would like to go on real Jeopardy! but you have to take the test and you can only take it once a year with your email address,” she explained.

“So every June, I take the quiz and they don’t tell you how you did. They just say, ‘We’ll let you know in the next nine-12 months if you got on the show.’ Guess what, I haven’t got on the show.”

Stone’s secret obsession with the long-running quiz show extends to watching it every day, if possible. She added, “I watch it every single night and I mark down how many answers I get right. I swear, I could go on Jeopardy!” Perhaps appearing on the quiz show could be her next endeavour if she fancies a break from winning Oscars – that’s if the team at Jeopardy! HQ actually gave her application a chance.
