Tributes pour in for David Lynch one year after his passing
On January 16th, the coveted filmmaker David Lynch passed away. A year on, a torrent of stars have taken to social media to share their renewed tributes to the late icon.
Lynch’s passing was announced by his family; he suffered from emphysema and revealed in November 2024 that he required supplemental oxygen to walk.
At the time, stars from all across the industry, including the likes of Laura Dern, Nicolas Cage, and more, paid tribute to the beloved genius. Now, some of his collaborators have reshared kind words to mark a year since his passing.
Kyle Maclachlan, who starred in five Lynch projects including Blue Velvet and Dune, wrote online, “One year without you and still moving through the strange and beautiful universe you opened for me, my dear friend.”
He added, “Forever changed, forever grateful, forever your Kale.”
In 2025, MacLachlan’s original tribute read, “Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie. He clearly saw something in me that even I didn’t recognize. I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.”
Naomi Watts, who starred in Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks: The Return, also took to her social media to pay tribute to the iconic director, writing alongside three photographs of the pair, “Your voice, your stories, your laughter—they’re etched into my heart. You changed my life, opened my mind, and left my ears ringing from those joyful bullhorn calls. You knew how to meet darkness with hope, light, and real beauty.”
Karen O, the frontwoman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, also took to social media, posting a picture of his grave with a rose. She confessed that she was “Missing David’s earthly presence.“
Fellow musician, Sky Ferreira, kept her tribute simple, sharing a picture of Lynch and writing, simply, “We miss you.”
Lynch was working on a Netflix series before his death, which he was in the process of location scouting for. His long-time producer, Sabrina Sutherland, deemd the script “the best thing he ever did.”
