‘Trailer Park Boys’ actor Mike Smith charged with sexual assault

Canadian actor Mike Smith, known for his role in the sitcom Trailer Park Boys, has reportedly been charged with sexual assault.

Smith, who plays the character of Bubbles on the show and also serves as its managing director, will be stepping back from the production after he was reportedly charged on October 2nd by Halifax police for an assault which took place in 2017, according to Canadian media outlets.

The news of the actor stepping back from the show was confirmed in a statement by Trailer Park Boys Inc, which is responsible for its production and streaming.

The company said it was taking the accusations seriously, hence Smith leaving his role, before adding: “We recognise how difficult an allegation of this nature is for all involved. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not comment further on the case.”

Although specific details of the alleged assault have not been made public, it is said to have taken place on December 30th, 2017, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, according to the Canadian media outlet, Canadian Broadcasting Corp, which first viewed documents on the case.

There is a reporting ban in place in order to protect the identity of the alleged victim, but it is confirmed that Smith has been forbidden to contact the person in question. The actor has not yet made any public statements on the matter, and is scheduled to appear in court in Halifax on November 10th.

Trailer Park Boys is a cult classic sitcom which first launched in 2001, following the story of three friends in a fictional trailer park who run into misdemeanours with petty criminals.

After its original six-year run, the show ended in 2007, but was picked up again by Netflix in later years, with a 13th series expected to be released in 2026. It is not known what the future of the show will be in light of the allegations against Smith.
