Toro y Moi announces instrumental version of debut album ‘Causers of This’
Toro y Moi has announced an instrumental version of his debut album Causers of This.
The record, which was originally released in 2010 after Toro y Moi signed to Carpark Records, was built on a chillwave style of production and a record he described as a “personal break-up album.”
Now, revisiting the album a decade after its first release, Toro y Moi has announced his plans to release the full instrumental LP on June 27. You can see the new album cover, below.
To coincide with the new project news, Toro y Moi has also released a cover version of Latin soul artist Joe Bataan with a rendition of ‘Ordinary Guy’. The song originally appeared on Bataan’s 1967 debut album Gypsy Woman.
“[Joe Bataan’s] music first caught my ear back in 2009 when Ryan Kattner of Man Man played it for me,” Toro y Moi said in a statement.
“I was immediately hooked by Joe’s music because, to me, he represented the impossible—he felt so comfortable in his skin and he had so much confidence and appeal.”
Toro y Moi’s rendition of the song also includes his regular collaborators the Mattson 2 and, releasing the track through Bandcamp, the musicians confirmed that all proceeds will go to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund.
