‘Top Gun 3’ in development at Paramount

Hollywood icon Tom Cruise has started plotting a third Top Gun film, which is in development with Paramount.

The latest Top Gun movie will see the actor star alongside Miles Teller and Glen Powell, who previously appeared in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick. Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison are also on board for the project, which will be produced or directed by Joe Kosinski.

News of the upcoming movie was broken by Puck, who stated that Top Gun 3 would likely be Cruise’s next project once he completes work on Mission: Impossible 8, which has been pushed back to a 2025 release. It’s currently unknown when Top Gun 3 will arrive in cinemas.

In a four-star review of Top Gun: Maverick, Far Out wrote: “Top Gun: Maverick soars alongside its predecessor in an attack formation, firing so many missiles it guarantees to hit the dizzying heights of the original, not to mention an arsenal of homages and nods to the previous film that, despite sometimes bordering on the ridiculous, feel as joyful, comfortable and nostalgic as a Happy Meal.”

The review continued: “Of course, there are better, more refined burgers out there, but this one still has a habit of sticking to our ribs in just the right way.”

Meanwhile, Cruise recently signed a new deal with Warner Bros to develop and produce original and franchise movies for the company. However, the contract is not exclusive, which explains why he’s permitted to make Top Gun 3 with Paramount.

“We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry,” Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairs of Warner Bros, said in a statement. “Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days.”

“In fact, when we first sat down with [Warner Bros. Discovery chief] David Zaslav to talk about joining the Warner Bros. Discovery team, he said to us, ‘We are on a mission to bring Warner Bros. back – we have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros,” they added.
