Top choice revealed to play Bruce Springsteen in upcoming biopic
The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White is in talks to star in A24’s upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, which will focus on the making of his sixth album, Nebraska.
Last year, writer and guitarist Warren Zanes shared his latest book, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska. Now, the story behind Springsteen’s signature album is set to be adapted to screen. Borrowing the title of the biography, the movie will be called Deliver Me from Nowhere.
Former Netflix Films chairman Scott Stuber will produce the picture, marking his first project since leaving the streaming giant, while Scott Cooper is set to write and direct. Cooper’s previous projects include 2009’s Academy Award-winning Crazy Heart and 2015’s Black Mass.
The film is yet to secure its star, but Deadline has reported that White is currently the top choice to take on the role of The Boss. At this stage, direct gegotiations with the star of The Bear are yet to begin.
Since landing the role in 2022, White has received huge critical acclaim and award success for his leading performance as Carmy in The Bear, even taking home an Emmy at last year’s award ceremony. The Hulu series follows Carmy as he struggles to keep his late brother’s sandwich shop afloat. Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach take on supporting roles.
Since then, White has received further praise for his appearance in Sean Durkin’s The Iron Claw. Starring alongside Zac Efron and Lily James, White took on the role of Kerry Von Erich, one of the brothers from the famous wrestling family. Having already proven his capabilities in the sports biopic world, it would be interesting to see him take on a music biopic with the role of The Boss and the tale of Nebraska.
Released in 1982, Nebraska charted Springsteen’s struggles with depression as he reached his 30s. The album has been highly praised in the decades since its first release, and even Springsteen himself has deemed it the album that represents him best. It’s fitting, then, that the story behind Nebraska will provide the inspiration for Cooper’s upcoming biopic.
Between Zanes’ source material and Springsteen’s involvement in the production, Deliver Me from Nowhere seems set to provide a considered and accurate look at The Boss. Hopefully, it will represent him just as well as the album does.
A timeline for Cooper’s Deliver Me from Nowhere is yet to be announced.
