Tool plan to write new songs while in lockdown

American rock icons Tool are putting their self-isolation to good use and will write news songs for a future EP.

The band, who released their fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum, to widespread critical acclaim last year will follow it up with new projects.

While their most recent effort was the band’s first in thirteen years, drummer Danny Carey is not resting in his laurels and hopes to again be working with Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor on new material.

Joining a conversation with the Berklee School of Music as part of a bass and drum webinar, Carey detailed his routine while in lockdown:  “I’m hoping, during this downtime, as soon as we’re able, maybe we’ll get together—Justin and I, and Adam—maybe start hashing out some new Tool stuff in the meantime, maybe write another EP since we’re down and we can’t do anything else.”

He added, “I’m just kind of waiting on that, you know, waiting around but—that’s all I’ve really got going on.”
