Tom Holland suffers concussion while filming ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Tom Holland has sustained a mild concussion while filming the latest Marvel movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, causing the production to come to a temporary pause.
The actor suffered the injury while on set on September 19th, according to Variety, and the production will pause filming in order for Holland to recover, before returning in a few days’ time.
The two producers of the film, Sony and Marvel Pictures, are due to meet on September 22nd to discuss the incident and figure out a plan for Holland moving forward. Despite this, it was clarified that no other cast or crew member was injured in the incident.
Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to mark Holland’s seventh outing as the titular superhero on the big screen, began earlier in the summer, with an extensive schedule shutting down large parts of Glasgow city centre while the production rolled in.
The actor appeared filming certain sequences on top of an army tank in the middle of the streets, which was dressed up to look like New York City. He was also joined by his partner Zendaya, who also plays the character of MJ opposite Holland in the franchise.
Speculation was heightened when Sadie Sink also flew into the Scottish city to begin filming, although her role in the movie has not yet been fully confirmed. It is being rumoured that she will play a villain character, possibly named either Jean Grey, Mary Jane Watson, or Gwen Stacy.
If true, this would mark the first time a Spider-Man villain has ever been played by a female actor.
Although the shoot for Spider-Man: Brand New Day wrapped in Glasgow in mid-August, filming has continued across various locations including Pinewood Studios in London, Italy, and Morocco, so it is not clear on which set Holland sustained his injury.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in cinemas on July 31st, 2026.
