Tom Cruise set to star in new Alejandro G. Iñárritu movie

Hollywood icon Tom Cruise has been confirmed as the star in a new movie by filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment are currently negotiating to obtain the package, representing Iñárritu’s first venture into English-language filmmaking since 2015’s The Revenant.

Details regarding the plot of the feature project, penned by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris, and Nicolás Giacobone, are being closely guarded, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The source also alluded to Cruise’s desire to work with auteurs after focussing too much on franchises like the Mission: Impossible films.

Iñárritu’s most recent directorial venture was the Spanish-language Netflix drama Bardo. Before that, The Revenant grossed over $500million worldwide and earned him the Academy Award for Best Director.

Cruise also recently signed new deal with Warner Bros to develop and produce original and franchise movies that will feature him in the starring role.

Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were recently appointed as co-chairs and CEOs of Warner Bros Motion Picture Group, with Cruise and his production company marking an early success for the duo.

“We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry,” De Luca and Abdy said in a statement. “Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days.”

The duo continued, “In fact, when we first sat down with [Warner Bros. Discovery chief] David Zaslav to talk about joining the Warner Bros. Discovery team, he said to us, ‘We are on a mission to bring Warner Bros. back – we have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros!’”
