Timothée Chalamet will serve as host and musical guest on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Timothée Chalamet will be doing double duty in an upcoming episode of Saturday Night Live. The star of James Mangold’s Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, is slated to appear as both the host and musical performer on January 25th.
Chalamet has been on an extensive press tour for Mangold’s Dylan biopic in which he stars as the famed singer-songwriter. Released late last year, Chalamet and his co-stars Monica Barbaro and Elle Fanning are in the running for accolades during awards season.
Chalamet earned a Golden Globe nomination for the performance and is widely expected to receive an Academy Award nomination.
This will be Chalamet’s third time hosting SNL and first time performing as the musical guest, albeit as Dylan playing songs from the A Complete Unknown soundtrack. He first took the stage as the show’s host in 2020 and again in 2023 around the release of the hit musical Wonka.
Although rare in the show’s five-decade history, there have been over 40 celebrities to pull double duty. Paul Simon, Ray Charles, and Willie Nelson are just a few of the musicians to have earned the distinction, while Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, and Bad Bunny have been more recent additions to the list.
It’s much more rare for a performer primarily known for their acting to take on the task. To date, that list includes only Gary Busey and Lily Tomlin.
The January 25th episode will take place just days after the Oscar nominations are set to be announced, with Chalamet expected to earn his second shot at the award after 2017’s Call Me By Your Name.
