Timothée Chalamet reacts to “tremendous” message from Tears for Fears singer about ‘Marty Supreme’
Timothée Chalamet has responded to a message he received from Tears for Fears frontman Curt Smith, who has praised his performance in the upcoming sports epic, Marty Supreme.
While speaking to BBC Radio 2 during his press tour for his upcoming ping-pong epic, Marty Supreme, the actor was played a message left for him by the Tears for Fears singer-songwriter.
In his video message, Smith shared, “I was lucky enough to sneak in quietly to watch the premiere of Marty Supreme, and what a wild ride! I mean, for me, the fact that ‘Change’, our song, opened the movie, and ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ closed it made it extra special, of course.”
Turning away from the soundtrack, Smith continued, “But you were amazing in it, as was the whole cast. And a special thank you for the orange balls!”
“We got to get that message to Josh Safdie, the director of the film. He’ll flip,” Chalamet first responded, after listening to much of the message with his eyes closed.
Once host Scott Mills confirmed that that would be possible, Chalamet continued, “What a tremendous message to get from a tremendous artist,” seeming extremely pleased to recognise the message from an artist he has huge respect for.
Nonetheless, live on air, Chalamet did go on to make a confession: “I didn’t realise… I’ll admit I didn’t realise that ‘Change’ was a Tears for Fears song. Maybe I shouldn’t have admitted that.”
Marty Supreme will be released in cinemas in the UK on December 26th. In the movie, Chalamet stars alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, the Creator.
Chalamet has been preparing for the role for seven years. “Everything I was working on, it was this secret,” he explained. “I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi.”
