Time goes by so slowly: Is Madonna finally releasing her first new album in seven years?
Signs are pointing towards the fact that Madonna could be preparing to release her first new music in some seven years.
On April 14th, the pop icon wiped the entire contents of her Instagram account, a sure signal in the modern age that some form of news or teaser is about to emerge from an artist.
On top of this, Madonna’s website has now rebranded into a cryptic design, with the words “Confessions on a Dancefloor”, “Confessions on a Dancefloor II’ and “COADE 2” flashing up, before it shows an image of a speaker sitting between a pair of legs with high heels on.
There is also an ethereal soundscape track that plays on the website, hence prompting speculation that this could be the start of a new music rollout from the sonic sensation.
The references to Confessions on a Dancefloor obviously link to Madonna’s album of the same name, originally released in 2005. 21 years after it first hit the airwaves, it seems that the singer is preparing for a follow-up record.
The original Confessions on a Dancefloor featured popular singles including ‘Sorry’ and ‘Jump’ as well as her global sensation ‘Hung Up’, sampling ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ by Abba, that topped the charts in no less than 41 countries.
The suggestion of new music comes after a peppered few years for the star, following the release of her most recent album, Madame X, in 2019.
However, after the release of a run of standalone singles in 2023, the 67-year-old’s health took a turn for the worse when she had to be placed into an induced coma due to a serious bacterial infection.
Despite this, she rallied quickly to return to the stage for the iconic Celebration Tour, which grossed a total of $225million over the course of 80 shows.
More recently, after a faltered start to a movie biopic of her life, it was announced last year that she is working with director Shawn Levy to create a Netflix series about her rise to fame.
