Tim Burton teases upcoming collaboration with Lady Gaga

Tim Burton has teased a new collaboration with global superstar Lady Gaga, in addition to their recent work together on the new season of Netflix’s Wednesday.

In November 2024, Netflix revealed that Lady Gaga will play the mysterious and enigmatic Rosaline Rotwood in the second season of the beloved Netflix show, Wednesday. Rotwood is a legendary Nevermore teacher who specialises in the dark arts and crosses paths with Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega.

This puts Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, right into Tim Burton’s path, as Burton has directed half of the second season, as he did with the first. During the recent Giffoni Film Festival, Burton was asked what it was like working with Gaga.

“Honestly, she’s an amazing artist, and I just worked with her on Wednesday a little bit,” he said. The filmmaker then hinted at a future project: “And I’ve done something else with her.”

He sang the musician’s praises, adding, “Just for me, it’s exciting to work with an artist that I respect and admire. I’m not a musician, I’m not a music person, but she’s a real artist, and that was very inspiring to me.”

Burton isn’t the only one on the Wednesday set that enjoyed Gaga’s company. In March, Ortega said of the singer and actor, “It’s the best. She’s the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim [Burton], two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much.”

Burton recently expressed doubt over the return of his beloved Beetlejuice series and shot down rumours that a third is on its way. He said, “It took 35 years to make the second one, so by that time I’ll be 105. I know those odds are not good.”

The new series will launch in two parts. The first four episodes will be released on August 6th, and the final four will be released on September 3rd, exclusively on Netflix. A third season is also confirmed.
