Thom Yorke shares new music ahead of ‘Confidenza’ album
Former Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has unveiled his latest venture into film scoring with the original soundtrack for Daniele Luchetti’s film Confidenza. This score follows the artist’s lauded work on the 2018 Suspiria remake, which earned him a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Song Written for Visual Media’.
Based on Domenico Starnone’s novel of the same name, Confidenza will receive the digital release of Yorke’s original soundtrack on April 26th, with vinyl and CD editions following on July 12th via XL Recordings. Alongside this announcement, Yorke has shared a music visual for the single ‘Knife Edge’, featuring a sequence from the film re-cut by Confidenza editor Ael Dallier Vega, accompanied by a B-side track titled ‘Prize Giving’.
Yorke’s involvement in ‘Confidenza’ saw him collaborate once again with producer Sam Petts-Davies, known for his work on Suspiria and The Smile’s latest album, Wall Of Eyes. The soundtrack also features contributions from the London Contemporary Orchestra and a jazz ensemble, including Robert Stillman and Yorke’s The Smile percussive bandmate Tom Skinner.
Elsewhere in TV and cinema, Yorke recently contributed music to Edward Norton’s Motherless Brooklyn in 2019 and wrote two original tracks for the series finale of Peaky Blinders in 2022.
Of late, Yorke has toured with The Smile alongside bandmates Skinner and Jonny Greenwood, after the release of their second studio album, Wall Of Eyes, in January. The new LP is the follow-up to their 2022 debut, A Light For Attracting Attention.
In a glowing four-and-a-half star review of Wall of Eyes, Far Out said: “Much like the album artwork, created as usual by Yorke and Stanley Donwood, the music within is haunting, even in its colourful moments, driven by lyrical angst and insidious instrumental juxtaposition. Wall of Eyes is not a salient masterpiece of the Yorke-Greenwood canon but a more than worthy addition to the bulletproof saga. What happens next is anyone’s guess.”
