This Is Lorelei announces new album, ‘The Singer in My Band’
This Is Lorelei, Nate Amos’ side project, has announced his new album, The Singer in My Band, with the release of his first single, ‘Billy Came Back’.
Marking his first release with Matador Records, Amos’ The Singer in My Band promises to twist the “building blocks of the Great American Songbook into new shapes” in Amos’ quirky style.
While Amos’s father suggested that the new album is like Jack Kerouac’s famous beatnik epic On The Road, Amos himself posits it as a “collection of chaotic experiences that you have while travelling. They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.”
Though Amos began This Is Lorelei as a side-project in 2013, his first official full-length solo album came in 2024. Box for Buddy, Box for Star soon spawned a deluxe version with covers and collaborations including MJ Lenderman, Hayley Williams, Jeff Tweedy, Cameron Winter and many more.
Amos, most famously, is one-half of experimental art-rock band Water From Your Eyes, whose free-wheeling, industrialistic tunes fuse together elements of indietronica, post-punk, neo-psychedelia, and the avant-garde.
In comparison, The Singer in My Band is an entirely solo feat: Amos engineered, produced, and performed everything on the record, save for a blistering banjo lead on the title track courtesy of his father, bluegrass musician Bob Amos.
Amos celebrates the album announcement with the release of his first track, ‘Billy Came Back’. Though it operates as the project’s propulsive lead single, it took Amos some time to work out.
He shared, “‘Billy Came Back’ stewed for months before I picked up a guitar to work it out – I kept forgetting about it but it always came back. Finishing the song was the only way to get it to leave me alone.”
