Actor Bobby J Brown, best known for his role in The Wire, has died aged 62 in a barn fire.
The fatal incident took place on February 24th, with his cause of death being ruled as diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation.
The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is treating Brown’s death as an accident.
St Mary’s County’s Sheriff’s Office have stated that the barn was “nearly fully engulfed in fire” upon firefighters’ arrival at the property. Brown had entered the barn in order to jump-start a vehicle.
They shared, “Family members on scene confirmed that one individual was still inside the structure. After the fire was brought under control, firefighters located a deceased male victim within the barn.”
Brown’s wife suffered severe burns while attempting to rescue her husband from the barn.
Brown’s agent, Albert Bramante, has told TMZ of his client’s death, “I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with.”
Additionally, Brown’s daughter, Reina, heartbreakingly opened up about the loss of her father in an interview with People, explaining that she received a surprise phone call at 11:30pm on February 24th when she had been “sound asleep”.
She continued, “Everybody is still trying to process it. It’s been difficult for all of us… My dad was an amazing human being. He was super awesome. He was a pillar in the community, and he’s going to be missed by a lot of people.”
Before training to become an actor in New York, Brown, who was born in Washington, DC, was a successful boxer and won five Golden Glove Championships.
In addition to his portrayal of Officer Bobby Brown in The Wire, Brown’s credits include Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Veep, and the 2022 mini-series, starring Jon Bernthal, We Own This City.
