The White Stripes announce companion release for ‘Get Behind Me Satan’ 20th anniversary
To celebrate 20 years of their fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan, The White Stripes are releasing a new box set on Third Man Records, including demos, alternative takes, live recordings and more of the album’s songs.
In June 2005, The White Stripes broke out from a creative slump with Get Behind Me Satan. Written and recorded during a period of burnout, it saw the band push through to make an album that was sonically different from their previous releases and experimental. Produced entirely by the band’s own Jack White, all creative control was put in the hands of the band.
Now, twenty years later, the band are celebrating its anniversary with a new package from Third Man Records as the 63rd instalment of the label’s vinyl subscription service, The Vault.
A new anniversary box set of the album contains two LPs and a 7” that holds songwriting demos, alternate studio takes and live versions of the record’s tracks. It also includes a DVD of footage from the band’s 2005 tour and a booklet of photos and stories chronicling the time period.
Titled Get Behind Me Satan XX, this anniversary release is considered a companion piece to the original record, providing further insight and context into the album 20 years later.
Featuring everything from Jack White’s original, early demos right at the song’s conception through to live recordings of the tracks as they took them out on the road, this boxset gives fans a deeper look into the entire process and story of the record.
To receive the package, fans need to be signed up to Third Man Records’ subscription service by January 31st. Founded by Jack White, the record label’s subscription service sends out handpicked releases to paying fans.
