Paramount confirms release date for upcoming Billie Holiday biopic
The upcoming Billie Holiday biopic, The United States vs. Billie Holiday, is set to be released on February 12th, 2021 via Paramount Pictures.
The movie will be hitting theatres just over a fortnight before the Oscar cut-off date of February 28th and looks set to be a fascinating feature film.
The biopic sees Andra Day take up the lead role as Billie Holiday which is only the actor’s third appearance in a film following on from smaller roles in Cars 3 and Marshall. Trevante Rhodes, Garrett Hedlund, Natasha Lyonne and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are all also set to play lead roles.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks is the brain’s behind the script for the film and is her first screenplay since 2019’s Native Son and the biopic is directed by Lee Daniels. Paramount Pictures acquired the distribution rights to the biopic in July, reportedly paying an eight-figure sum for the film.
“With the world’s eyes forced to look at the centuries-old oppression of Black people, I hope The United States Vs. Billie Holiday will add to this important conversation by shining a light on systemic racism and social injustice,” Daniels said in a statement earlier this year.
