The Stray Cats cancel tour due to Brian Setzer’s serious health issues
The Stray Cats have cancelled plans for a tour due to singer Brian Setzer’s ongoing health issues.
The band were due to belatedly start their winter North American tour on October 28th in Louisville, Kentucky, which was set to keep them on road for almost a month before wrapping up in California on November 23rd at Hard Rock Live in Wheatland.
The Stray Cats had previously been due to start the run of shows on October 25th, however, that date in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, was cancelled, as well as another concert in Illinois on Chicago 26th.
Now, they have confirmed that no dates will be going ahead. Setzer explained in a statement: “I’m heartbroken to share, due to serious illness, I am unable to perform and very regrettably have to cancel our Stray Cats tour. I know this affects so many people and I am devastated to have to deliver this news.”
He continued, “I’ve been trying everything I can to go on and do these shows, but it is just not possible. I’ve been looking forward so much to being on stage with my band mates again and playing for all of our amazing fans, and I’m gutted.”
In February, Setzer opened up for the first time about his ongoing issues with an autoimmune disease, which had prevented him from being able to play the guitar.
He explained that during the last tour with The Stray Cats, he “noticed that my hands were cramping up”, which led to him learning that he has an autoimmune disease. Setzer added, “I cannot play guitar. There is no pain, but it feels like I am wearing a pair of gloves when I try to play.”
Setzer continued, “I have seen some progress in that I can hold a pen and tie my shoes. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I was at a point where I couldn’t even do that. Luckily, I have the best hospital in the world down the block from me. It’s called the Mayo Clinic. I know I will beat this, it will just take some time.”
While Setzer has been open about his health issues, he has not disclosed the specifics of his autoimmune issue.
