‘The Simpsons’ kill off long-running character, Alice Glick, for the second time

The Simpsons have killed off elderly character Alice Glick for the second time in the history of the show.

Glick’s latest death in Springfield, which is said to be permanent this time, played out in the latest episode of season 37, which aired on November 16th.

In the ‘Saches to Saches’ episode, church organist Glick unexpectedly died while a sermon was being delivered during service.

It’s then revealed that entire will has been left to Springfield Elementary in order to fund a new musical programme for kids.

Notably, she previously died in season 22, but infrequently returned to Springfield as both a human and a ghost over the last 15 seasons of the long-running animation.

In a statement to People, the show’s executive producer Tim Long confirmed that Glick’s death is for good and ruled out a future return.

Long said, “In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made. But in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail.”

The death of Glick is the second major death to occur on The Simpsons in as many years. In 2024, it was Larry the Barfly, most often seen propping up the bar at Moe’s Tavern, who was killed off in the ‘Cremains of the Day’ episode of the 35th season.

Additionally, only last week, Dan McGrath, who served as a writer and producer on The Simpsons during the 1990s, died at NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn on November 14th following a stroke.

Notable episodes that McGrath wrote include ‘Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood’ and ‘The Devil and Homer Simpson’. He also won an Emmy for his work on ‘Homer’s Phobia’, which guest-starred director John Waters as a gay antiques dealer who befriends Marge, much to the dismay of Homer.
