The Owls – Bad Side (Electrify)

We’re transporting ourselves far away from the frost-bitten temperatures of UK shores for this weeks Unsigned Sunday, instead taking a trip to much sunnier climates and the east coast of Australia.

There, in the city of Newcastle, you will find the infectious blues-rock of The Owls, a quartet who have been knocking around for a while now, but have produced probably the best work of their existence thus far in the shape of their latest EP Own the Streets.

Pretty much all of its six tracks are undeniable toe-tappers from the outset, but we’ve picked out ‘Bad Side (Electrify), a track that that draws on the sounds  of The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and on the slightly messier side of the scale, The Orwells.

And we’re not the only ones who feel that this exciting four-piece don’t necessarily get the credit they deserve, with The Cribs, DZ Deathrays and Wolfmother all having taken them out on tour in Australia.

Don’t just take our word – or indeed their word – for it though, introduce yourself to The Owls by listening to ‘Bad Side (Electrify)’ below and check out the Own the Streets EP via Soundcloud.
