‘The Movie Critic’ will no longer be Quentin Tarantino’s final film
Ever since Quentin Tarantino announced that The Movie Critic was going to be his final film, there has been a lot of buzz surrounding the project. Unfortunately, it looks like the Pulp Fiction director has decided that it’s not going to work out.
While it might be considered an early retirement by normal filmmaking standards, Tarantino has always insisted that he does not want to end his legacy on a weak note. He once said: “I know film history, and from here on [out], directors do not get better.”
That might be why he has reportedly shut down work on The Movie Critic, which was set to revolve around a reviewer writing for a porno rag in 1970s California. The film was garnering significant momentum, with many outlets suggesting that Brad Pitt had joined Tarantino’s last movie as the lead.
According to Deadline, sources who personally know Tarantino have claimed that the acclaimed filmmaker has shut down work on The Movie Critic because he feels it is not the right project to end his incredible career with. As the reports outline, this is all down to Tarantino himself, who has had a change of mind and is ready to go back to his tank of ideas to pull something else out.
Previously, while discussing his final project, the Reservoir Dogs filmmaker had outlined many possibilities for the last chapter of his journey as a director, including a book adaptation, a historical biopic and even a sequel to the beloved Kill Bill series.
“I think it’s just revisiting the characters twenty years later and just imagining the Bride and her daughter, Bebe, having 20 years of peace, and then that peace is shattered,” Tarantino said in an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “And now The Bride and Bebe are on the run, and just the idea of being able to cast Uma [Thurman] and cast her daughter Maya [Hawke] in the thing would be fucking exciting.”
While it’s not clear what Tarantino is going to do next, there’s a good chance that he might just be looking at the ideas he had throughout his career that were never made.
