The Last Dinner Party tease new single and lyrics
The Last Dinner Party have teased a potential new single and lyrics on social media, sparking speculation of what their next musical era will entail.
The band shared a short video on Instagram on July 7th, in which they were seen dancing around a bonfire while a soft, ethereal guitar riff played over the top.
In the caption for the post, the band wrote the lyrics: “I’ve never known myself/ But then I’ve never claimed to know/ I do this for my health/ Breathing the dust/ Of an inferno.”
After fans were prompted to head to the band’s website, there is a message that simply reads: “Mythologise Thyself” with the same image of a fire, perhaps indicating that this could be the title of their possible comeback single.
It comes as the much-anticipated beginning of the band’s sophomore era, following on from their critically acclaimed debut Prelude to Ecstasy, which was released in February 2024, reached the number one spot in the UK, and received a nomination for that year’s Mercury Prize.
The band toured extensively throughout the first half of 2024 in support of the album, granting the five-piece an early reputation as one of the most exciting live bands currently treading the boards of the UK indie rock scene.
The return of The Last Dinner Party comes just two months after their lead guitarist, Lizzie Mayland, set out on their own solo journey alongside the band, releasing their debut EP The Slow Fire of Sleep on May 9th under the name L Mayland.
Mayland previously told Far Out that the process of creating their solo EP alongside the band was “very much trying to reconnect with myself and my feelings and even what my opinions are and what’s important to me or what’s been weighing on me.”
