The Last Dinner Party’s Lizzie Mayland announces debut solo EP
Lizzie Mayland, guitarist of two-time Brit Award-winning band The Last Dinner Party, has announced a solo EP. The Slow Fire Of Sleep will be released on May 9th, 2025.
Mayland, whose artist name is L. Mayland, has also released the only single from the project, ‘Lighthouse’. Long-time collaborator Cal McIntyre has created a visualiser awash with deep reds and purples to accompany the track.
Mayland explains the song “is about being in a healthy romantic relationship for the first time in my life and the fear of losing that.” ‘Lighthouse’ is vulnerable and quiet, with sweeping violins and choir-like embellishments behind Mayland’s vocal line.
The artist wrote most of the EP in the “liminal space between tours” with The Last Dinner Party. “These tracks definitely grew from those periods,” they state. “Suddenly finding myself in my quiet flat and filling that silence with my guitar and these sad songs. It was a way to process what was happening in my life, to come back to myself.”
The EP will include five tracks that dive into Mayland’s emotional landscape. On ‘Mother Mother’ Mayland explores the articulation of their relationship with gender. On ‘Homeward’, a student from the countryside now finds themself in the concrete jungle.
On aforementioned single ‘Lighthouse’ and ‘From the Other Side of the World I’d Hear You’, Mayland writes of sustaining a healthy relationship from across the globe.
Mayland shared the single on The Last Dinner Party’s Instagram, showing that the band are supportive of their solo endeavour. On their own socials, Mayland noted that the EP was recorded alongside Imogen and the Knife, and Will Lister. “It was such a gentle and joyful experience and I’m so so proud of what we made together.”
To celebrate the release of their debut EP, L. Mayland will perform two headline shows at Manchester’s Castle Hotel on May 11th, and in London at St. Matthias Church on May 9th.
