The Last Dinner Party cancel more shows due to health reasons

The Last Dinner Party have announced the cancellation of a number of upcoming headline tour dates due to an illness in the band.

The art-rock outfit kicked off their headline tour of the UK and Ireland in September. So far, they have played shows in Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and more. This week, they were scheduled to take to the stage in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton, but the band have made the decision to cancel these shows.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the difficult decision to cancel our upcoming headline tour dates in Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol, and Southampton,” The Last Dinner Party wrote on social media. The band cited an unforeseen illness in the band, adding, “following medical advice, we have to prioritise our health at this time.”

The Mercury Prize-nominees stated they were “devastated” to miss the shows, as well as the previously cancelled dates in Lincoln and Cardiff. “You should all know you’ve made this the most wonderful year of our lives,” they wrote, “and we can’t thank you enough for your love and support. Truly.”

The Last Dinner Party’s response to Lincoln security issues

The cancellations follow complaints about security procedures at The Last Dinner Party show at The Engine Shed in Lincoln on September 28th. Men who were attending the gig alone alleged they were taken to a private room for questioning and searching before being permitted to enter the show, leading both the band and the venue to release statements on social media.

The Last Dinner Party wrote that the security policies had been “created and enforced by the venue at their own discretion, and were not made in consultation with us.”

“Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend our shows,” they added, “We are appalled and disappointed that anyone was made to feel otherwise. We welcome The Engine Shed’s investigation and further staff training to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.”

The Engine Shed also took to social media to share a statement on the incident. The venue suggested that due to “incidents at previous The Last Dinner Party gigs,” they had changed their security policies. They acknowledged that this led to the unacceptable treatment of some attendees and stated that an independent investigation has been launched.

The show in Lincoln was cancelled before The Last Dinner Party took to the stage, with the band citing sudden illness. The following gig in Cardiff was also cancelled.

The band’s headline tour is currently set to continue in Dublin on October 7th.
