The Itch announce debut album with transformative new single ‘Aux Romanticiser’
“So what’s your take? No more DJs. We’re done with DJs,” a pair of squabbling friends muse at the beginning of London duo The Itch’s new single, ‘Aux Romanticiser’, setting a precedent for the rest of the shimmering song: DJs are out, but DJ bands are certainly in.
Deemed both “a product of and an antidote to an age of pessimism,” It’s The Hope That Kills You‘s first two singles have already gained cult status in and around the London area. The undulating, sweeping, literary slam-dunk ‘Ursula’ was a curious, confident, and considered debut single, while opener ‘Space In The Cab’ blasts the project off into the club-crazed dance-space.
On ‘Aux Romanticiser’, The Itch, also known as simply Simon and Georgia, remain as relevant as ever, sampling both the viral webseries Subway Takes and Pearson Sound’s ‘WAD’, gesturing towards a wide, impressive net of influences.
The difficulty with sampling the immediately relevant is that the track may quickly age in an industry which pummels forward with exuberant excess. However, The Itch has steered clear of gimmicky grabs with a thicket of tantalising texture that demands more attention than the ironic lyricism.
As the song takes off, the listener becomes lost in the singularity of the moment. On ‘Aux Romanticiser’, the moment is darker than the call-and-response and house-inflexion of some of their other adored tunes. Thankfully, The Itch have strayed into a new demeanour.
It’s the eighth track in the upcoming debut, but it may as well be the last; the euphoric climax widens the track into a new space, fit for pink and purple strobe lights, for bashing gleefully into mates you thought long gone in the never-ending corridors of the basement club.
It’s The Hope That Kills You is slated for an April 10th release in a collaborative record deal between Fiction Records and I OH YOU.
