The new sound from The Horrors was seen on their latest release ‘Machine’. The track saw the band move away fro their ethereal standpoint and find their feet toe-tapping somewhere decidedly more industrial. One thing that hasn’t changed though is their penchant for a little gore and a lot of art.
Looking like the twisted dream of Faris Badwin after a particularly long hairspray project, the video is disturbing and somewhat comforting.
Disturbing because the imagery is so dark and comforting because it feels like The Horrors have come home to their darker roots, a little after their millennial pink getaway.
CGI maestro Jon Emmony created the video, and had this to say: “The video for ‘Machine’ is based around the concept of computer simulation. The creatures, formed from sections cut and twisted from insects, crustaceans and bone are arranged in sculptural compositions inspired by artists such as Hieronymus Bosch; finding the surreal within mixed forms and scales. If left, taken away from an edit, the creatures would continue to exist and their movements would evolve. For me this was an exciting way to create digital imagery, as having an element of control removed and then decided by a computer seemed fitting with the track. Machines inside machines.”
