The Hives announce new album, ‘The Hives Forever Forever The Hives’, and share single ‘Enough Is Enough’
Swedish rock band The Hives have announced their seventh album, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives, and shared a new single, ‘Enough Is Enough’, with a music video directed by Eik Kockum.
The band’s seventh record is their first since 2023’s The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons which marked their first in over a decade. The Hives revealed the forthcoming release at a live-streamed conference in Mexico City Marble Palace on April 1st.
As part of the announcement, they described the seventh record as one filled with “energy, joy, anger and life” and one with fans “questioning reality as you have known it”. They also claimed “every single song a single, every single single a hit, every hit a direct hit in the face of the man.”
With 13 tracks, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives is led by the upbeat single ‘Enough Is Enough’. The music video shows frontman Pelle Almqvist as a high-stakes boxer experiencing the perils of the pressure. According to the band, the song was chosen early as a single because it had a beat and riff audiences could enjoy.
“Who in their right mind would start a song like this? No one but The Hives,” the band states, discussing ‘Enough Is Enough’. “They are here again sooner than you expected and they have had enough of everyone at this point. Hence the title. Dig? Dig.”
Discussing the new track with NME, Almqvist also explained the message beneath the song, saying it’s as “close to political commentary as you’re gonna get” with the opening line, “Everyone’s a little fucking bitch”, effectively alluding to the view: “Fuck both sides”.
Recorded in Stockholm and Malibu, The Hives Forever Forever The Hives was created with contributions from longtime collaborator Pelle Gunnerfeldt and Beastie Boys’ Mike D as co-producer. The band also gained creative support and advice from Josh Homme during the sessions.
Along with the album announcement and single release, they also shared a series of new and upcoming tour dates across the UK and Europe. Beginning in October this year, the tour comprises dates in Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Madrid, Paris, Glasgow, Manchester, and London, wrapping up in December in Stockholm.
This follows a hugely successful run in 2023 following the previous album release, with the band performing a series of dates and touring alongside Arctic Monkeys following their release of 2022’s The Car. “It’s a band that we really like, and what I’ve been thinking about the most is that I get to go and see this band that I like playing all these massive shows,” Niklas Almqvist later reflected to Far Out. “I’ve seen them at almost all the shows for a month and am so happy for them.”
The Hives Forever Forever The Hives is set for release on August 29th, 2025.
