‘The Godfather Part III’ actor Anthony Guidera dead at 65

Anthony Guidera, an actor known for his roles in films like The Godfather Part III, has died aged 65.

Guidera made his on-screen acting debut, fittingly playing the role of Anthony, in The Godfather Part III in 1990, before going on to have a varied career across film and TV until 2005.

According to TMZ, the actor died on June 6th, as his wife Valarie confirmed that he had been in hospital and on life support over the course of his final weeks.

This came after Guidera collapsed at the couple’s home in Southern California on May 11th, leaving him in a critical condition ever since. Despite this, no cause of death has been revealed, as his wife said they could not establish the cause of his collapse.

As well as appearing in The Godfather Part III, Guidera made a name for himself over the ensuing 15 years with roles in films such as Armageddon and Species, for the latter of which he won the MTV Movie Award in 1996 for ‘Best Kiss’, alongside co-star Natasha Henstridge.

Aside from the big screen, Guidera also played parts in many major TV shows, including the likes of Baywatch and The Good News.

After bidding farewell to his acting career in 2005, with his final role being in the movie LA Dicks, Guidera moved with his wife to become volunteers at a “spiritual foundation” in California named Astara.

With the organisation referring to the former actor as “Reverend Anthony”, they paid tribute to him in an Instagram post on June 6th that said: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Astara’s Reverend Anthony”.

They added: “We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible taking each moment as it comes. Please hold his eternal light in your hearts and his family in your prayers.”
