The Far Out Pub Quiz: A mix of music and film news and trivia

The pub quiz is a cultural tradition that stretches back many decades, and seemingly, only continues to grow in popularity. Now, there is a new pub quiz in town courtesy of Far Out.

The inaugural edition of The Far Out Pub Quiz consists of 20 questions, which will test just how closely you’ve been paying attention to pop culture over the last seven days, as well as the depths of knowledge that have been lying dormant in your mind for years until now.

It’s been a big week in both cinema and music. Notably, the Venice Film Festival has got underway with the world’s biggest names from the silver screen, such as George Clooney and Emma Stone, making their way to Italy with hopes of seeing their new movies win the prestigious ‘Golden Lion’ award.

There have also been new releases in film, such as the Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman romcom The Roses, and most significantly, Darren Aronofsky’s new movie, Caught Stealing, starring Zoë Kravitz and Austin Butler, which will be looking to displace Weapons from the top of the UK box office.

Although we are now firmly at the dregs of festival season, last weekend saw hundreds of thousands of revellers attend Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK. Meanwhile, this weekend, Ireland’s premier music festival, Electric Picnic, is set to draw the summer to a close.

Without giving too much away about the questions that lie ahead, the biggest music story is Oasis returning to North America for the first time since 2009. It’s a continent they have a fascinating history with, and their time away has seemingly made Americans and Canadians more appreciative of the Gallaghers than ever before.

While there are no physical prizes up for grabs with The Far Out Pub Quiz, pride is on the line, and the chance to get your weekend underway on the right foot.
