The Damned cancel tour dates due to “unexpected and catastrophic event”

The Damned have cancelled three upcoming tour dates in Seattle, Portland and Vancouver due to a “catastrophic” event that took place at a member’s home.

The Damned’s current line-up consists of original members David Vanian, Captain Sensible, and Rat Scabies, as well as Paul Gray and Monty Oxymoron, who joined the band in 1980 and 1996, respectively.

The statement did not specify which band member had experienced this “catastrophic” event. The band released the news via a short social media statement, which began: “We are very sorry to have to cancel our Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver shows this weekend due to an unexpected and catastrophic event at a member of The Damned’s home.”

They concluded, “We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Refunds will be available for our two headline shows at your point of purchase.”

This comes only four months after the band’s founder and guitarist, Brian James, passed away at the age of 70. James reunited with the other original members, Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies and Captain Sensible in 2022 for a series of performances, marking the first time in over 20 years that the original lineup had all performed together.

Only a month ago, the punk pioneers made a huge announcement, revealing that they will be headlining Wembley Arena on April 11th, 2026. This special event is in recognition of the fact that it has been 50 years since they first formed in the city in 1976. Since then, the band has gone on to spearhead the genre by being the inaugural band to release both a punk single and album.

It has not yet been clarified whether The Damned plan to reschedule these concerts. Their next scheduled gig is set to take place in St. Louis, Missouri on September 16th; currently, this show will go ahead.
