The Charlatans announce new album ‘We Are Love’, share title track and UK tour dates

The Charlatans have announced their new album, We Are Love, scheduled for release on October 31st, and shared the title track.

We Are Love is the first record from The Charlatans since Different Days in 2017, the longest gap between albums in their history. The Manchester icons debuted the new single at a recent huge headline show at Castlefield Bowl, which is the first taste of their 14th studio album.

On ‘We Are Love’ being chosen as the first single, Tim Burgess said: “Early on we thought it felt right. And it turned out that way: first single, title track, second song on the album. And things started forming around We Are Love. There was a certain energy to it that drove us forwards.”

For the new record, The Charlatans recruited a super team of producers, working with Dev Hynes, Stephen Street and Fred Macpherson. Production was handled in the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales, as well as their own Big Mushroom space in Middlewich, Cheshire.

The Charlatans have a history with Rockfield. They last recorded at the famous studio since making Tellin’ Stories almost 30 years ago, an album that is drenched in tragedy amid the loss of keyboardist Rob Collins during the recording process.

Reflecting on returning to Rockfield, frontman Tim Burgess explained: “The whole idea of hauntology and psychogeography is represented by us going back to Rockfield, where so much history has happened for The Charlatans.”

Burgess poignantly continued: “That was important as a way of honouring every member who’s played in the band. So we’re honouring ourselves, our past, feeling that energy and reincarnating it, doing something fresh, brand new.”

To coincide with the release of We Are Love, The Charlatans have announced details of a new UK tour which will visit Leeds, Stoke, Bath, London, Manchester and Glasgow in December.
