The unstoppable Anton Newcombe, AKA the man behind The Brian Jonestown Massacre, cannot be stopped. The enigmatic leading man of the project is back out with a brand new self-titled album and a lead song ‘Cannot Be Saved’ ready to melt your brains. We’ve made it our Track of the Day. Excuse us as we try to pour our cerebral cortex back through our earholes.

The new LP, due out on March 15th via Newcombe’s own A Recordings, will see The Brian Jonestown Massacre grace your stereos with their 18th studio album. Recorded this time last year, the album features Sara Neidorf on drums, Heike Marie Radeker (LeVent) on bass, Hakon Adalsteinsson (BJM / Third Sound & Gunman & Holy Ghost) on guitar and Anton Newcombe on multiple instruments. Also making a guest vocal appearance on ‘Tombes Oubliées’ is Rike Bienert who has sung on previous BJM albums. The band performed songs from the album throughout the European leg of the 2018 tour.

Anton continues to be the insatiable artist he always was. Never deviating from his own way or falling foul of ‘paying lip service’ to anyone who didn’t deserve it. It is this attitude which has allowed him to forge his own sound and in many ways give brith to a whole host of copycat acts. The latest track ‘Cannot Be Saved’ is just another example of this sound.

Lamely pigeonholed as fuzzy garage rock, it is best enjoyed on one’s own, with headphones pressed so deep that your eardrums vibrate with every driving beat. This set up should allow you to properly enjoy the energising riffs and Newcombe’s hazy vocal, all of which culminates in one hell of a taster of the album to come.
