The Beatles biopics: Aimee Lou Wood and Mia McKenna-Bruce in talks for major roles

Aimee Lou Wood and Mia McKenna-Bruce are reportedly in talks to play Pattie Boyd and Maureen Starkey in Sam Mendes’ upcoming biopics on The Beatles.

The latest casting speculation comes after the Oscar-winning director appeared at the annual CinemaCon event to confirm Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Paul Mescal, and Harris Dickinson would play the parts of Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and John Lennon, respectively.

Wood’s name has been linked to the role of Boyd for some time, which was initially fuelled when she shared an image of George Harrison and Boyd on their honeymoon in Barbados in 1966 on her Instagram Stories in March.

Then, in April, The Sun claimed Wood had been cast to play Boyd with a source telling the publication: “Aimee is a fantastic actress. The similarities between her and Pattie in terms of their looks is uncanny, but Aimee is a brilliant storyteller and is regarded as one of the country’s best acting talents.”

Now, the InSneider has supported those claims by stating that Wood has been lined up to portray Boyd and McKenna-Bruce, best known for How To Have Sex, will play Ringo Starr’s first wife, Maureen Starkey. However, no official announcement has been made.

It was recently confirmed that Jez Butterworth, Jack Thorne and Peter Straughan will be on writing duties for the four movies. Butterworth’s credits include Ford vs Ferrari and Spectre, Straughan is an Academy Award-winner responsible for writing Conclave, and Thorne most recently penned the hit Netflix series Adolescence.

Rather than making one single film about The Beatles, Mendes is plotting to put a unique twist on the biopic genre. The director is set to helm four separate movies that explore the same version of events from the perspective of each member of the Fab Four, which will all be released in April 2028.
