Tame Impala announces US arena tour for new album ‘Deadbeat’
Tame Impala‘s return to music is in full swing; after two new singles, they have announced a US arena tour.
A day after announcing the upcoming new album, Deadbeat, Kevin Parker has announced that Tame Impala will be playing a handful of US arena shows. They will kick things off on Halloween at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, which will be their first US show since Desert Daze in 2022.
After two nights at the Barclays Center, the Aussie collective will move on to Chicago, before performing on November 6th in Austin. He will take his beloved summery beats on to San Diego before stopping for two nights at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The short but sweet tour finishes on November 14th in the Oakland Arena, California.
On September 4th, Parker shared that Deadbeat is inspired by bush doof culture. These are electronic music festivals often held in remote bushlands, as popularised in the Western Australia rave scene. This new perspective is a means of “recasting Tame Impala as a kind of future primitive rave act in the process.”
He will revisit familiar topics on the record. Lyrically, the songs will investigate “an endless bummer, a self-deprecating fuck-up stuck in a negative feedback loop when he should have long had his shit together.”
Far Out have covered the comeback singles closely, writing, “‘End of Summer’ was another left-turn in Parker’s sound, where he fully embraced acid house and EDM influences over the course of a warping seven-minute beast. His latest single, ‘Loser’, plods along with its hands in its pockets, too afraid to take a similar risk and dazzle fans with something that feels like it’s pushing boundaries. It’s by no means a bad song, but the squelching synth-funk unfortunately doesn’t have quite the same impact.”
